Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School 3rd Grade Girls College Champions

At Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School, Mr. Spychalski’s Third Grade girls’ class is very excited to be working with Lauren Brunsdale, a UPenn athlete specializing in the Pole Vault.  The girls were not familiar with the pole vault, but were so impressed when they were shown videos of Olympic pole vaulting.  This even inspired some girls to aspire to become Olympic Athletes.

The girls are introduced to Lauren and learn about the Pole Vault.

Lauren’s video message to the class about goal setting, in preparation for their own goal setting project, was wonderfully received.  The girls began to understand the importance of scaffolding their “Big Dreams” by setting and achieving smaller weekly or daily goals.

The girls learn about goal setting.

The girls used a graphic organizer, seen below, to assist with the project.  This tool, which was created by Ms. Cappuccino, was instrumental in the visual development of their goals.

With Lauren’s upcoming classroom visit, the girls decided to plan and film themselves sharing their goals and dreams.  This film was completely student driven and inspired.  We are so proud of our Third Grade girls’ class here at Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School! Thank you College Champions for providing this opportunity and of course to our College Athlete, Lauren Brunsdale!
