This month has been a very exciting time for second grade at Darby Township School. We were first introduced to College Champions, learned about what we would be doing this year, and then go to meet our Mentor Lauren Brunsdale! The second grade students were so excited to learn about Lauren and her sport. As soon as we watched her video they couldn't wait to pull down the Map of the United States and find out where Colorado was. So many of them couldn't believe that she would go to College so far away from home. We talked about some reasons why people might go far from home, and why some people would prefer to stay close to home.
After meeting Lauren we received our first video and our first challenge from her. She did a great job explaining to second grade how she breaks her goals down. So after listening to Lauren they were so excited to get started. We took Lauren's advise and they started with a Dream or Goal for the year. After that we talked about what they would have to do for the month to help us reach their long term goal. Then they talked about what they can be doing this week to help reach a goal. Last what will they do today to help them reach their goal.
After we finished with our goals, we shared our goals with our classmates. We talked about what can we do as a classroom to help support each others goals. The students picked a partner so that they can check in with their partner once or twice a month to make sure they are working to complete their goals.
Students working and thinking about what their dream/goal is for the year.

We promise to work each day and to hold each other accountable for our goals!!
